Plywood chair no 1
This project explores the intersection of digital manufacturing and traditional craftsmanship. Inspired by the minimalism of Japanese design, this chair was engineered in CAD to maximize material efficiency and structural integrity. The fabrication process utilized 3-axis CNC machining for precision component creation, followed by complex stack-lamination and hand-shaping techniques to achieve seamless curves and hidden joinery from standard Birch plywood.
Highlighted Skills
Design for Manufacture (DfM): Optimizing geometry for 3-axis CNC machining.
CAM Programming: Toolpath generation and nesting strategies.
Stack Lamination: Building complex 3D forms from 2D sheet material.
Precision Woodworking: Flush-trimming, hand-shaping, and sanding exposed end-grain.
Surface Finishing: Polyurethane application and opaque spraying techniques.
